Document Am I entitled to free NHS prescriptions if I receive ‘New Style’ Employment Support Allowance or Jobseeker’s Allowance?

‘New Style’ Employment Support Allowance (ESA) and Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) is available in some circumstances for people entitled to apply for Universal Credit and it is always contributions based. This means that receiving ‘New Style’ ESA or JSA would not entitle you to free NHS prescriptions automatically as only income related versions of these benefits entitle you to help.

As you can receive this payment alongside Universal Credit; you may still be entitled to free NHS prescriptions if your Universal Credit award meets the criteria.

universal credit, free dental, new style, jsa, esa, new version
