Document Which appliances are covered by Regulation 11?

Covered by Regulation 11

The appliances that are covered by Regulation 11 are:
  • Dentures

  • Obturators

  • Bridges

  • Orthodontic appliances
The appliance must be a like-for-like replacement otherwise it's not covered by Regulation 11.

Not covered by Regulation 11

Neither a night guard, nor a bite raising appliance are covered by Regulation 11. A replacement night guard / bite raising appliance should be classed as a new Course of Treatment (CoT).

Both night guards and bite raising appliances are considered as custom made appliances. All custom made appliances aren't included in the definition of a 'dental appliance' in the NHS dental service regulations, therefore, because Regulation 11 only applies to 'dental appliances'.

Regulation 11 only covers NHS supplied appliances, therefore any appliance fitted privately wouldn't be covered.
