Document Who are the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA)?

The NHSBSA is part of the NHS and is an Arm’s length body to the Department of Health and Social Care.

The NHSBSA are directed by the Secretary of State for Health to recover prescription costs and any associated penalty / surcharge costs that may be owing from patients that have claimed an exemption when not exempt. The recovery of these costs is managed in line with regulations and on a case by case basis.

The Prescription Exemption Checking Service, a service commissioned by NHS England, is delivered by NHSBSA.
