Document How is the prescription charge calculated?

The prescription charge on your Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) reflects the same cost of the prescription you collected.

The cost of your prescription is calculated per item rather than just the whole prescription, therefore two items prescribed on a single prescription will cost two times the standard prescription amount.

Also, some items may attract more than one prescription charge, even though they only show as one item on a prescription. This could be because the pack contains more than one preparation or ingredient.

As of 1 April 2019, the standard prescription item cost is £9.00. Prior to 1 April 2019 it was £8.80.
