Document How long have I got to claim a refund of my Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC)?

You have 3 months to make a PPC refund claim.

The 3 month time limit begins from the date your exemption certificate was created on our records If you have been awarded a;
  • Maternity Exemption (MATEX)
  • Medical Exemption (MEDEX)
  • HC2
  • NHS Tax Credit Exemption certificate
However, if you're exempt via a qualifying benefit, you have 3 months from the date your benefit was approved, not the date your entitlement was backdated to.

If you purchased your PPC after the date you became exempt and the 3 months have already lapsed from your exemption certificate being created / benefit being approved, a refund can still be considered if it was purchased within 3 months.

If the PPC holder has died, a refund can be claimed up to 24 months from the date of death.

Refund claims received after these time limits cannot be considered under any circumstances.
