Document What can I do when the brand which the price of a Drug Tariff category C drug is based on is not available?

The prices for category C items indicate solely how the Part VIIIA price for the item has been set, not that the brand stated should be dispensed where the item is ordered generically.

Therefore you are under no obligation to dispense the brand or manufacturer which the price is based on; you can dispense another.

However, if it is prescribed as the Drug Tariff generic you will only get paid the price listed in there; not the price of what you have dispensed.
The prescription would need to be changed if you wish to be paid for an alternative product or specific brand or manufacturer / supplier.
