Document When should a dispense claim message be sent?

The dispense claim message must only be sent once a patient has collected their medication.

Submitting the dispense claim message before this point could result in the following happening:
  • The patient becomes exempt between the dispense claim message being sent and the prescription being collected. If the claim has been submitted as paid then the charges will automatically be collected when it is processed.
  • The patient is no longer eligible for free prescriptions when they collect the prescription. As the prescription has been claimed as exempt the customer will have to pay. This money would not be recovered by the NHS during processing and the contractor must make a separate arrangement with NHS England to have this recovered.
