Document What funding is available for postgraduate course students?

Providing you meet all eligibility criteria, the following funding elements may be available to you from the first year of your course:

Placement Travel Allowance (PTA)

This is a non income assessed allowance intended to support you with your placement costs.

If you're allocated a capped bursary place and eligible for a Basic Bursary, your PTA entitlement will automatically be included in this award.

As PTA is not subject to the capped bursary allocations, you may still be awarded this if you're not allocated a capped bursary place. However, no additional Social Work Bursary funding will be available to you.

Additional Social Work Bursary funding

The following additional allowances are only available if you've been allocated a capped bursary place;

Tuition fees

This is a non income assessed limited contribution intended for payment towards your tuition fees.

Basic Bursary

This is a non income assessed award intended to support you with your general living expenses and will automatically include the Placement Travel Allowance (PTA), therefore, you won't receive a separate payment for the PTA.

Maintenance Grant

This is an additional award also intended to support you with your general living expenses, however, this award is income assessed.

Childcare Allowance (CCA)

This is an income assessed allowance intended to support you towards any childcare costs you incur with a registered childcare provider.

Adult Dependants Allowance (ADA)

This is an income assessed allowance intended to support an adult that is wholly or mainly financially dependent on you.

Parent's Learning Allowance (PLA)

This is an income assessed allowance intended to support any children that are wholly or mainly financially dependent on you.

Disabled Students Allowances (DSAs)

This is a non income assessed allowance intended to support you if you will incur additional costs whilst in training as a direct result of a disability or medical condition.
