Document What is Free Early Years Education?

All three and four year old children are entitled to 15 hours of free Early Years Entitlement per week, across 38 weeks of the year.

You can choose to take this Free Early Years Entitlement at any of the following registered ‘providers’:
  • Pre-school playgroup.
  • Private day nursery.
  • Childminder (who belongs to a registered childminder network).
  • Maintained nursery school.
  • Nursery or reception class in a primary or independent school.
We will not pay Childcare Allowance for any fees already covered by Free Early Years Education.

You can apply to us for childcare costs incurred within those weeks. The cost declared on the application should only be for the additional cost (you should not declare costs already covered by Free Early Years funding).

Please remember to keep your receipts for all childcare costs you pay.
