Document How is an NHS Low Income Scheme (LIS) assessment carried out?

A detailed calculation is carried out taking into account your weekly income, any capital you may have and your weekly requirements or expenses to determine the amount, if anything, that you will have to contribute towards your health costs.

If you have a partner, their income will also be taken into account as part of your assessment, as will the income of any other people who live with you, not who you live with, who are not children or dependent young people.

Each claim under the NHS LIS stands alone as a new claim and no reference is made to previous claims.

Each claim is a 'snapshot' of your financial circumstances at the time your claim is received; any claim that you make will be assessed on the basis of the information given on your HC1 application form at the time.
