Document How are accommodation costs calculated when I am on a placement?

You may be reimbursed the total cost of temporary accommodation on placement subject to a maximum amount.

You can claim up to a maximum of:
  • £55 per night for commercial accommodation (hotels, B and B’s, lettings agents or estate agents) or
  • £25 per night for non-commercial accommodation (hospital accommodation, private renting from an individual landlord or university halls)
You are also permitted to claim towards the cost of one return journey each week between your normal term time address and your temporary accommodation whilst you are on placement. You can only be reimbursed the excess daily cost when compared to your normal daily travel to and from university.

Travel costs between your temporary accommodation and your placement site may be claimed in addition but you can only be reimbursed the excess daily cost of these journeys when compared to your normal daily travel to and from university.

Any booking or admin fee is included in the maximum amount allowed for your accommodation. It will not be refunded separately.

Your university will be required to sign off on all placement claims.
