Document Can I continue contributing to the pension scheme if I change employment after my NPA?

If you leave pensionable NHS employment after your NPA and do not intend to retire you are permitted to change jobs and contribute to the scheme. Movement in and out of the scheme and the break between jobs should be less than a year.

If you leave pensionable NHS employment before your NPA and are not in NHS employment at NPA your benefits must be paid as a if you're a deferred member, from NPA even though you have not made an application. If you wish to re-join the scheme this would be subject to the conditions for re-employed pensioners.
