Document Fixed Protection 2014

Due to the drop in the lifetime allowance (LTA) from £1.5 million to £1.25 million as of 6 April 2016 HMRC announced two forms of protection known as 'individual protection' and 'fixed protection 2014'.

As the NHS Pension Scheme is a defined benefit scheme, fixed protection could be lost where there is benefit accrual. Benefit accrual is where the increase in your pension and lump sum exceeds the Consumer Prices Index (CPI).

If you join the 2015 Pension Scheme your Fixed Protection will be lost. For further information, please see the factsheet Loss of Enhanced and Fixed Protection 2012 and 2014 because of the 2015 NHS Pension Scheme which is available on our website.
