Document What is A-Day / A-Day Valuation?

On 6 April 2006 (A-Day), HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) changed the way it limits tax-free pension savings in approved schemes like the NHS Pension Scheme. HMRC set up transitional protection arrangements for members whose total pension benefits were close to, or exceeded, the lifetime allowance (LTA).

Members of the Scheme had until 5 April 2009 to make an initial application to HMRC for transitional protection.
Please note: NHS Pensions do not provide retrospective A-Day valuations. If you require a retrospective A-Day valuation, you should put this request in writing, stating why you require an A-Day valuation at this late stage.
