Document Can I retire from the 1995 section of the scheme and continue to pay into the 2008 section?

Yes, if you have deferred pension benefits in the 1995 section of the scheme you can claim these benefits and continue to pay into the 2008 section of the scheme. You do not need to take a 24 hour break from your current NHS job or restrict your working hours.

Please note: If you have Special Class or MHO status and are made redundant before age 55 and return after a break of more than 5 years as a 2008 section member you can still claim your deferred 1995 Section benefits at age 55.

For more information please see the Deferred Benefits section of our website.
