Document Can disallowed days affect my entitlement to apply for ill health retirement?

Yes, you must have at least two years qualifying membership to be eligible to apply for ill health. As disallowed days do not count as qualifying membership, this can rule out an ill health application if your service is under two years once any disallowed days have been deducted.

For example, if you had two years and one months calendar length service and two months of disallowed days, this would mean that you had only one year and 11 months qualifying membership. In this example, if you had left the scheme you are not be eligible to claim your pension on the grounds of ill health and instead need to apply for a refund of pension contributions.
