Document Do I need to submit the SD55 and SD55T when a member is retiring?

If the members retirement date is before the end of the current financial year you will only need to complete and submit an SD55T from the start of the current financial year to the members retirement date.

For example, if a member submits their AW8 in February 2019 to retire on 1 March 2019 you will need to complete and submit an SD55T for 1 April 2018 to 1 March 2019.

If the members retirement date falls within the following financial year you will need to first complete and submit an SD55 to the end of the current financial year. Once you have done this you would then need to complete and submit an SD55T from the start of the next financial year to the members retirement date.

For example if a member submits their AW8 in February 2019 to retire on 1 May 2019 you will need to complete and submit an SD55 for 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2019 and an SD55T for 1 April 2019 to 1 May 2019.

If you are completing the forms in advance of the member retiring you will need to estimate the figures up to their retirement date. Once you have submitted the forms you can amend any details as required by submitting an AW171.

Please note you can amend a change in contracted out NI earnings using an SD55E. You do not need to submit an AW171 for contract out NI earnings as this will not affect the calculation of the pension.
