Document If a member has less than two years membership, what benefits would be payable if the member dies while not in active employment?

If the member dies more than 12 months after leaving the Scheme with less than two years’ membership overall and has not had a refund of contributions or transfer out, there would be a one off payment made to the member’s estate equivalent to a refund of the member's contributions less any appropriate deductions, such as income tax.
 
A claim for a refund of contributions form (AW12/2) form is completed by the member’s Personal Representative to claim a refund of contributions. This can be requested by contacting us either in writing or over the phone with our member helpline.
 
If the member dies less than 12 months after leaving the Scheme with less than two years’ service overall and has not had a refund of contributions or transfer out, there would be a one off payment made to the member’s surviving partner, nominee or their estate equivalent to three times the yearly rate of the member’s pension.
 
A form to claim death benefits for a deferred member (AW9P) should be completed by the person making the claim.
