Document Can a member nominate their partner to receive an adult dependant’s pension when they die?

A member may nominate their partner to receive death benefits as long as the following conditions are met:

  • The member has contributed to the Scheme on or after 1 April 2008
  • The member and their partner have lived together in an exclusive long term relationship for at least two years ending with the member’s death.
  • The member and their partner must be free to marry or enter into a civil partnership
  • The member and their partner must be financially interdependent

Please note: if you are married or in a civil partnership, you do not need to nominate your partner to receive this pension. Your spouse or partner will automatically qualify for this pension.
