Document Can I take my Money Purchase AVC before or after my NHS Pension?

With effect from 1 April 2015 an NHS Money Purchase AVC (MPAVC) member, aged 55 or above, is now able to access their MPAVC benefits separately from the main NHS scheme benefits, from any point permitted under wider taxation and pensions legislation. This could be before the date of retirement from the main NHS scheme.

It is now possible to take the whole of the AVC investments as a single lump sum, or as a series of lump sums. Up to 25% of each lump sum may be tax-free.

Members should contact their AVC Provider to discuss the options available.
