Document If I am claiming my NHS pension due to terminal illness, what will happen to my Additional Pension?

If you are buying or have already bought Additional Pension, and:

  • You have been paying the additional contributions for more than 12 months, or
  • In the case of purchase by a lump sum, it is more than12 months since the payment was made

You will be credited with the full purchase of Additional Pension.

If you have apply to retire within 12 months of starting to pay for your Additional Pension, the purchase will be void and any payments made will be returned to you.
