Document Can I re-join the scheme if I return to work with deferred benefits after my Normal Pension Age (NPA)?

  • If you leave the NHS with deferred benefits from the 1995 scheme you are not able to re-join the scheme if you return after your NPA as these benefits were payable from age 60 (or your last day of service if later) and any service after age 60 is not eligible for membership within any of the schemes.

  • If you leave the NHS with entitlement to deferred benefits from the 2008 Section of the Scheme or if you have taken benefits from the Scheme you may re-join either the 2008 Section or the 2015 Scheme up to the age of 75 as long as you meet the eligibility criteria.
