Document If I work for a Direction Employer, do the restrictions around returning to work after retirement apply to me?

Yes, if you retire from a Direction Employer and then return to work with:

  • an NHS employer
  • the Direction Employer you previously worked for
  • another open Direction Employer that would allow you to rejoin the scheme

If you are a member of the 1995 section you must take a 24 hour break and work no more than 16 hours per week in the first calendar month after your retire.  If you are a member of the 2008 section you must take a 24 hour break.

Please note: this also applies if you were contributing to the scheme as a result of a TUPE transfer.
