Document Where can I find guidance on Dental Practitioners?

A single Estimate of Pensionable Profits form is completed by the contract holder for all of the Scheme members within the practice, and forwarded to their Area Team. Each individual Scheme member will receive a statement each month which advises their contribution.

At the end of the year once the earnings have been confirmed, the Dental Practitioner would complete the 'Annual Reconciliation Declaration' on the NHS Dental Portal.

For the purposes of recording their Scheme membership on Pensions Online (POL), Dental Practitioners are classed as employment type 5 and capacity code 8.

Please note: if a Locum Dentist or Locum Dental Performer is a qualified dentist who works at a GDS / PDS Practice on an occasional basis and is performing GDS / PDS then they are regarded as a normal Practitioner and entitled to pay into the NHS pension scheme. They are not classed as GP Locums and this would be regardless of the length of time they are working as a Dental Locum.

Dental Practitioners are automatically opted into the scheme, if for any reason they need to rejoin the scheme they would need to write into Dental Services.
