Document Can a Dental Locum join the NHS Pension Scheme?

Yes, a Locum Dentist or Locum Dental Performer can join the NHS Pension Scheme as long as they are a qualified dentist who works at a GDS / PDS Practice on an occasional basis and they are performing on a GDS / PDS contract. A Dental Locum who is employed by a 3rd party - for example, through an agency - cannot pension any earnings paid by the 3rd party.

A Dental Locum is regarded as a normal Practitioner for Pension purposes (not as a Locum or GP Locum); this is regardless of the length of time they are working as a Dental Locum.
