Document Can a GP Locum pay pension contributions while on maternity, paternity or sick leave?

As GP Locum employees are not entitled to maternity, paternity or sick pay for their GP Locum work, a GP Locum cannot continue to pay into the NHS Pension Scheme while they are absent from work.

Their pension record will remain open until three months have passed since their last day of work. Their record should then be closed down retrospectively, from the day that the GP Locum last worked.
