Document I am a foster carer, can I apply for an EHIC for a child that I foster?

Yes, if you are a foster carer you can apply for an EHIC for any foster children in your care, this would still apply if the child does not have UK, EEA or Swiss nationality.

You can apply by using one of the following methods:
  • Online

  • By telephone on 0300 330 1350 if you are calling from the UK.

  • By telephone on 0044 191 279 0575 if you are calling from outside of the UK.

  • By post. You can find the application form on the NHS website. The completed form should be returned to us at:

    EHIC applications,
    Bridge House,
    152 Pilgrim Street,
    Newcastle Upon Tyne,
    NE1 6SN

If your application includes a child in your care and they are not a UK, EEA or Swiss national you must apply by post. A copy of the child's right to remain in the UK, for example, their VISA etc. must be included.
