Document Can I claim a refund if the Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC) holder has died?

Yes, you may be able to claim a refund if the Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC) holder has died.

Full refund

You can claim a full refund if:

  • The PPC holder died within the first month of their PPC being valid
  • The PPC holder went into hospital within the first month of the PPC being valid and died in hospital before the PPC expired

You have 24 months (less a day) from the date of death to claim a refund.

 

Example: The PPC holder passed away on 30 January 2018, the refund claim must be received on, or before, 29 January 2020.

Partial refund

You can claim a partial refund if:
  • The PPC holder died in the second month of a 3 month PPC
     
  • The PPC holder died between the second and eleventh month of a 12 month PPC
     
  • The PPC holder went into hospital after the first month, but before the last month of the PPC, and died in hospital before the PPC expired
You have 24 months (less a day) from the date of death to claim a refund.

Example: The PPC holder passed away on 30 January 2018, the claim for a refund must be received on, or before, 29 January 2020.

No refund

You cannot claim a refund if:
  • The PPC holder died in the final month of either a 3, or 12, month PPC
     
  • The PPC holder went into hospital during the final month of their PPC and died
