Document Am I guaranteed a refund if I've become exempt from NHS prescription costs?

Whether you get a refund depends on some factors;

When your exemption started

If you have a 3 month PPC, your exemption must have started either before the PPC start date or during the first month of the PPC for you to be entitled to a refund. If you've became exempt during the second or third month of your 3 month PPC, you're not entitled to a refund.

If you have a 12 month PPC, your exemption must have started either before the PPC start date or before the final month of the PPC to be entitled to a refund. If you've became exempt during the final month of your 12 month PPC, you're not entitled to a refund.

How long it takes you to claim

You have 3 months (less a day) from the date you became entitled to free NHS prescriptions to claim your PPC refund. Any claims received more than 3 months after the entitlement started, will be rejected under any circumstances.

If you're paying for your PPC by Direct Debit (DD), you wouldn't be liable for the full amount of your current PPC as long as you return your PPC to us.
