Document How much will my refund be?

A Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC) refund is based on the number of full remaining months you have left, whether it's a 3 or 12 month certificate you have and when your entitlement to free NHS prescriptions started. We are, therefore, unable to tell you exactly how much your refund will be until a calculation has been done by our Policy Refunds Team but we have created some general guidance;
  • Full refund - If your exemption starts on or before the date your Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC) started and you claim it within 3 months of the date the exemption starts, you'd usually get a full refund of your PPC
  • Partial refund - If you become exempt during the first month of a 3 month PPC or before the last month of a 12 month PPC you'd usually get a partial refund as long as you claim within 3 months of the date your exemption starts
  • No refund - You won't receive a refund if you become exemption during the second month of a 3 month PPC or during the final month of either a 3 or 12 month PPC. You also wouldn't receive a refund if we received your claim more than 3 months after the date your exemption starts
Once Policy Refunds have processed your refund request, they'll write to you confirming whether you're entitled to one and if so, how much you're going to receive. You will receive this letter no more than 15 working days (3 weeks) from the date we receive your refund claim.
