Document Who is entitled to receive a free NHS-funded sight test in England?

You are entitled to receive free NHS-funded sight tests in England if you are:
  • Under age 16
  • Aged 16, 17 or 18 and in full-time education
  • Aged 60 or over
  • A diagnosed glaucoma patient
  • At risk of glaucoma, as advised by an ophthalmologist
  • Aged 40 or over and the parent, sibling or child of a diagnosed glaucoma patient
  • Diagnosed as diabetic
  • Registered as severely sight impaired / blind or sight impaired / partially sighted
  • Receiving a sight test in a hospital eye department as part of the management of your eye condition
You may also be entitled to receive a free NHS-funded sight test if you require complex lenses.

Additionally, you will be entitled to a free NHS-funded sight test if you hold a valid exemption certificate or you get, or are included in an award of someone getting a qualifying benefit.
