Document When can I automatically receive help towards my optical charges?

You are automatically entitled to receive help towards the cost of an NHS sight test and glasses or contact lenses if at the time of your relevant appointment:
  • You are under 16 years of age

  • You are 16, 17 or 18 years of age and in full-time education

  • You are named on a valid HC2/HC3 certificate

  • You are named on, or entitled to, a valid Tax Credit Exemption certificate

  • You get, or are included in an award of someone getting, a qualifying benefit

  • You are over 60 years of age (sight test only)
If you have already claimed help with your optical costs in the last 2 years you will need to speak to your optician about your entitlement to receive further help.
