Document What are the optical supplements that are listed on an optical prescription?

There are certain optical supplements that can be listed on an optical prescription. These supplements can be for prisms, tints, photochromic lenses, small frames or special facial characteristics.

The supplements may be awarded by an optician, hospital eye service or NHS trust, where clinically necessary. They cannot be awarded for cosmetic reasons.

These supplements can be added to your optical voucher if you are entitled to help with your health costs, but can also be awarded if you are not entitled to any other help towards your optical costs.

For more information, please speak to your optician.
