Document Dental Contract Reform - How is a prototype contract's activity expectation calculated?

When a prototype contract is set up, the contract’s minimum level of activity is based on the practice's historic delivery in the baseline year with adjustments for:

  • Referrals

  • Urgent Treatment

  • Charge exempt courses

  • any changes in commissioned levels of UDA

Expected activity levels will depend on the prototype blend the practice is allocated to.

  • Blend A: Band 2 and band 3 activity is included within the expected minimum activity level (counting 2 out of 3 UDA for band 2 and 11 out of 12 UDA for band 3)

  • Bend B: Band 3 activity is included within the expected minimum activity level (counting 9 out of the 12 UDA for band 3)

An adjustment is then made to recognise that prevention takes more time and fewer treatments will be delivered as a result. Expected activity levels will be reduced by 20% for band 2 and 30% for band 3.
