Document Digital Certificates - Midwives

Please use the following questions to answer your query;

 How do I register to provide digital Maternity exemption certificates?
If you're a Health Care Professional who'd like to provide digital Maternity Exemption (MATEX) certificates, you need to email nhsbsa.healthcosts@nhs.net.

Make sure you put in your email's subject field that you wish to register to  provide digital Maternity exemption certificates.

We require your:
  • Name
  • NMC / GMC number
  • Email address (This must be an nhs.net account; we cannot accept nhs.uk accounts)
  • Location
  • Contact telephone number
Once we've received your email, we'll register you on the system and you'll receive an email containing your login details within 3 working days.

You'll also receive a guide to digital MATEX certificates; this can take up to 10 working days to reach you.


 What is a NMC identifier?

A NMC / GMC identifier is a unique number. Every midwife has their own unique NMC / GMC identifier number.

 How do I change my password?

At present, there's no functionality to change your password.

 What should I do if I've lost the link to the online application?

As a midwife, if you're registered to produce digital Maternity exemption certificates, you can log in on our website, you'll need your username and password.

Expectant Mothers cannot log in and apply for themselves.

 What should I do if the online system isn't available / I receive an error message?

If the online application form isn't available or you receive an error message at any stage of the process, please wait a few moments and re-try by refreshing your screen (press F5) or using your browser's back button. If the problem persists, contact us.
