Document If I have membership in the 1995/2008 scheme and the 2015 scheme, can I transfer out my previous membership?

If you have previous NHS membership in the 1995/2008 scheme that ended more than five years before you joined the 2015 Scheme, you can transfer out your previous 1995/ 2008 scheme membership providing you are under normal pension age for the respective Section.

However, if you moved (or will move) from the 1995/2008 Scheme to the 2015 scheme on 1 April 2015, or at such a time as your tapered protection ends, you cannot transfer this out and keep your 2015 scheme benefits. This is because in this case you retain a final salary link on your 1995/2008 Scheme benefits whilst active in the 2015 Scheme.

If you leave pensionable membership in the 2015 scheme you will become a deferred member and are then eligible to transfer out pension rights from either both Schemes or one.
