Document Can I request to transfer out if I have left the NHS Pension Scheme but remained in NHS employment?

Yes, however If you leave the NHS Pension Scheme by opting out but do not leave NHS employment, there may be restrictions on the amounts available for transfer.

If you have more than two years membership before 6 April 1988 you will only be able to transfer the value of any benefits accrued after that date. If you subsequently leave NHS employment, the remaining benefits may become available for transfer. To become eligible for a full transfer, a break of one calendar month in NHS employment is required.

For further information, please see the 'Leaving Early and Transferring Out Booklet' on our website.
