Document What is the age limit for transferring out of the NHS Pension Scheme?

A transfer of pension benefits out of the NHS Pension Scheme must be completed before your reach your Normal Pension Age (NPA).

The Cash Equivalent Transfer Value (CETV) of your pension benefits is normally guaranteed for 3 months, therefore if your completed transfer out option form is received within this 3 month guaranteed period, your transfer out can go ahead.

However, if you are approaching NPA, or reach your NPA during this 3 month period you must ensure the completed forms are returned to NHS Pensions in time for the payment to be processed before you reach NPA. The forms should be returned no later than 1 month before you reach NPA.

If payment has not been made before you reach your Normal Pension Age (NPA), you will lose the right to transfer your benefits out of the Scheme.
