Document What is the time limit for transferring into the NHS Pension Scheme?

1995 Section

Your application to transfer benefits into the Scheme must be made within 12 months of joining for the first time and before your Normal Pension Age (NPA), which is 60.

2008 Section

Your application to transfer benefits into the Scheme must be made within 12 months of becoming eligible to join for the first time and before your NPA, which is 65.

2015 Scheme

Your application to transfer benefits into the Scheme must be made within 12 months of becoming eligible to join for the first time and before your NPA, which is the same as your State Pension Age or age 65 if that is later. Subsequently, if you have moved to the 2015 Scheme either through choice or because of Tapered or No Protection then the time limit that would apply would be the one relevant to your previous scheme membership as shown above.

There are additional time limits if you are transferring from a Club scheme and / or if you have been contributing to another scheme while paying into the NHS Pension Scheme. These are outlined in the related articles below.

More information, including the Transfer In Guide and application pack, can be found on the NHS Pensions website.
