Document How long does it take to process a transfer into the NHS Pension Scheme?

The time taken to complete an incoming transfer is variable and depends upon the timely completion of the actions required by all parties involved.

To start the transfer process, you must complete the incoming transfer application form on our website and obtain current transfer value statement from your previous pension provider.  This information must be submitted to NHS Pensions within 12 months of the date you became eligible to join the NHS Pension Scheme.

On receipt of your valid transfer application (and any additional information we may require), we will provide you with an estimate of the membership or earnings credit the transfer would buy you in the NHS Pension Scheme. We aim to send you your transfer estimate within 20 working days of receiving all the information we require (against our statutory target of two months).

Once we have provided a transfer estimate to you, it is up to you to make your election and if you wish to proceed with the transfer you will need to ask your previous pension provider release the transfer payment to us.

The transfer is complete when the transfer payment is received by us. We aim to send you confirmation within 20 working days from the date the payment is received.
