Document What date will my ill health pension be payable from?

If the Consideration of entitlement to ill health retirement benefits (AW33E) form is completed before termination of employment, and you are successful in your application, the payable date is the day after termination of the contract of employment. Your employer needs to close down the record with exit code 04 as termination due to sickness.

If you have left the Scheme and your benefits are deferred the payable date is the date your healthcare provider signed part B of the Consideration of entitlement for early payment of deferred benefits due to ill health (AW240) form.

If you successfully dispute a Consideration of entitlement to ill health retirement benefits (AW33E) ill health retirement decision via the Internal Dispute Resolution process the appropriate tier of benefits become payable from the day after all NHS employment has ceased.

Where Tier 2 entitlement is established as a result of a reassessment request the Tier 2 benefits become payable from the date on which the Tier 2 decision is reached, they are not backdated to the date from which the Tier 1 benefits were paid.

The payable date for successful Consideration of entitlement for early payment of deferred benefits due to ill health (AW240) early payment of deferred benefit ill health applications, or disputes, is the date on which the healthcare provider completed part 2 of the Consideration of entitlement for early payment of deferred benefits due to ill health (AW240).
