Document What is the maximum contributions I can make in the NHS pension scheme?

The Finance Act changed the 15% cap on pension contributions. You are now eligible to contribute in up to 100% of your taxable pay.

For example, if you were paying contributions of 13.5% and had an Added Years (AVC) contract at 10%, this would be acceptable, even though your total contributions are in excess of 15%.

Although you can contribute up to 100% of your taxable pay, if you are a member of the 2015 Scheme who is making contributions towards an Early Retirement Reduction Buy Out (ERRBO) and an Additional Pension (AP) contract the increase to your pension cannot exceed £6500 per year through the ERRBO and AP. NHS Pensions will inform you if this applies to you.
