Document If I have outstanding or unpaid contributions, when and how will my employer collect these?

If you have outstanding or unpaid pension contributions, your employer will organise and agree with you when and how these will be deducted.

Although there is no set time scale in which the scheme requires the collection of unpaid contributions we do ask that these are paid as quickly as possible. Outstanding contributions can be paid either as a one-off lump sum or as by instalments. No interest is added to your outstanding contributions.

If you leave a period employment with outstanding contributions, your employer will record the outstanding amount on the annual record of contributions that they submit to the scheme. We will arrange for your next NHS employer to collect these outstanding contributions.

If you have outstanding contributions when you retire and claim your pension these can be deducted with your consent from your pension benefits.
