Document How did Agenda for Change effect the NHS Pension Scheme?

Agenda for Change resulted in an overhaul of NHS jobs and at this point many jobs were re-banded, resulting in a loss of pay. When Agenda for Change occurred and where it was decided that a members pay would be decreased, they were protected on their higher pay for five years from 1 April 2006. After this five year protection some members found that their pay reduced.

For pension purposes, it was agreed that pensions may be protected for membership up to 31 March 2006 and if pay was reduced from 1 April 2011 pensions may be further protected at this point. It is the responsibility of NHS employers to provide us with the relevant information for this protection to take place.
