Document What is meant by the term dual capacity?

The term dual capacity refers to a member of the 2008 section of the scheme who has two or more of the following types of membership:

  • active or non-contributing membership
  • deferred membership
  • pensioner membership
  • pension credit membership

For example: a member of the 2008 section of the scheme who has taken a pension under the partial retirement Draw Down provisions and carried on in pensionable employment.

The term may also refer to a pensioner member in respect of two or more pensions, or a deferred member in respect of two or more pensions. For example, a member who is receiving a pension from both sections of the scheme, or who has deferred membership in both sections of the scheme.
