Document What are the minimum / maximum age limits and maximum pensionable membership restrictions within the scheme?

The minimum age at which you can join the NHS Pension Scheme is 16. This is the same for the 1995, 2008 and 2015 Scheme.

There are certain restrictions within the scheme regarding the maximum pensionable membership that can be accrued and the age to which you can pay into your NHS Pension. What restrictions will apply depends on which part of the NHS Pension scheme you are a member of. For details of these restrictions, please see the Maximum Membership and Age Restrictions factsheet on our website.

Please note: ALL members who cease to be pensionable under scheme rules because of age restrictions are still entitled to death in service benefits as long as they remain under NHS employment until retirement.
