Document Can I still use my Maternity exemption certificate if I've had a miscarriage or stillborn birth?

If you've had a miscarriage, termination or stillborn birth you're can continue to claim free NHS prescriptions using your Maternity Exemption (MATEX) certificate until it expires.

Please note however, being pregnant entitles you to free NHS dental treatment, not the fact that you hold a certificate.

You'd only be entitled to a course of NHS dental treatment for free if you were pregnant on the first day that you attended the dental practice for the treatment.

If you've gave birth to a child registered as stillborn (i.e. you have miscarried during or after the 24th week of pregnancy) you're entitled to free NHS dental treatment for 12 months following the date the birth was registered.

If you became pregnant partway through a course of NHS dental treatment, you're not entitled to the course of treatment for free.

If you started the course of NHS dental treatment when you were exempt, you'd be entitled to this course of treatment for free if your entitlement ceased part way through.
