Document How do I collect medication that I need before my Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC) arrives?

One off card payment

You can collect your NHS prescription without paying if:

  • Your PPC is valid on the date you collect(ed) your medication
  • Your payment for your PPC clears (if you’re given your PPC number at the end of your application, it has been successful)

To be able to do this you need to:

  • Tick box F on the back of your NHS prescription

It's worth making a note of your PPC number and taking this with you to give to the pharmacy / dispensing doctors if you haven't already collected your medication.

The pharmacist / dispensing doctors cannot refuse to dispense medication; they just need to indicate 'evidence not seen' on your prescription in line with their guidelines.

Direct Debit (DD)

You can collect your NHS prescription without paying if:

  • Your PPC is valid on the date you collect(ed) your medication
  • You have entered into an agreement to pay for your PPC by DD (if you’re given your PPC number at the end of your application, it has been successful)

Important: If you use the certificate without paying your DD instalments then you may have to pay a penalty charge. If you repeatedly fail to pay your DD installments then you may not be able to pay by DD in the future.
