Document Why haven't I received my new NHS Tax Credit Exemption certificate yet?

There may be a number of reasons why you have not received your new NHS Tax Credit Exemption certificate yet.

Common reasons are:
  • You no longer meet the qualifying criteria

  • You have an existing certificate which hasn't yet expired

  • You haven't waited 4-6 weeks since your assessment was completed by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC)

  • You've changed address and not updated this with HMRC

No longer entitled

If you've had a change in your circumstances which occurred during the current tax year, you may no longer be entitled to an NHS Tax Credit Exemption certificate.

The following changes may have affected your entitlement:
  • Your child tax credit payments have stopped
  • Your partner has moved in or out of the household
  • Your annual income has increased to above £15,276
  • You (or the partner you live with, if applicable) are now in receipt of a qualifying benefit and therefore qualify for help with NHS health costs anyway
You can check if you are entitled to an NHS Tax Credit Exemption certificate using the flowchart on our website.
