Document What should I do if I've received a letter from you stating that I'm in receipt of a qualifying benefit but I've checked and I'm definitely not?

If you have made an application to receive help with your health costs via the HC1 application form, you may have received a letter back stating that you are not entitled because you already receive a qualifying benefit instead.

The letter will tell you that you have indicated you are on one of the following benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Job Seekers Allowance – Income Based
  • Employment and Support Allowance – Income Related
  • Pension Credit - Guaranteed Credit
However, the letter also confirms 'this is not proof of your exemption'.

The response you've received is based on the information you've supplied to us on your HC1 form.

If you've since found that you're not on that qualifying benefit then please send the letter received from us along with proof of the benefit you do actually receive so we can reassess you. If you're reassessed and you qualify for an exemption certificate, this will be dated from the date that your original application was made.
